Leap Of Faith - A Brief History                    


In The Beginning: 1999 - 2001


        Al Kehn, Cair Beaton, Jamie Mayer and Chris Riding were part of a cover band known as Secret Voices.  Other members over the years included Dwight Biggs, Cheryl Saltiziak and Scott Coughlin.  Recording of the first 4 tracks for what would become “Life Is What You Make Of It” done with drummer Ralph Corea (deceased 2015).  In 2001, Ralph Begley and Georgina Johnston joined the band, both on the same day.  A new name was in order, reflecting the changed lineup.  Leap Of Faith was born.

 

Early Years: 2001 - 2006     


    The lineup of Cair Beaton, Georgie Johnston, Al Kehn, Jamie Mayer, Ralph Begley and Chris Riding recorded the remainder of the debut cd at rabbit tracks studio in Waterloo.  Life Is What You Make Of It” was released in 2002.  It was followed by “Power To Choose” released in 2005.  Shortly after, Chris Riding left the band, replaced on bass briefly by Steve. 

 

Time passes: 2007- 2015


    2007 saw Peter Polfus join on drums, with Al taking over on bass.  Highlights during this time include playing at the Royal York Ballroom in Toronto, Drayton Music In The Park Festival, International Plowing Match Mitchell, Registry Theatre, and the Final Farewell Festival closing the Regina St Waterloo Legion.  Third cd “Follow Me” recorded by Ben Kempel in Conestoga, released in 2014.  During this time Leap Of Faith twice joined John Calvert live on Bluewater Radio’s Gospel Show.

 

Late Years: 2015 - 2024


        Terry Ible joined the band in late 2015 on drums, bringing a new energy to the group.  The band continued to find new places to play throughout south western Ontario.  Some favorite churches that have had Leap of Faith return repeatedly over the years include, Barry Hill United Rockwood, Hope Lutheran Kitchener, St Peter's Linwood, Saint Louis Waterloo, Faith Lutheran Port Elgin, and Holy Cross Kitchener.


The finale: Feb 16 2024


      On the night of Friday Feb 16 the band played to a full house at the Waterloo Knights of Columbus Charity Fund Raiser.  Unknown to anyone there, including the members of the band, this would be the final performance for Leap Of Faith.  A few weeks later the band would part in different musical directions.  Life long friends with great memories of two and half decades together.
